My postnatal support service offers traditional perspectives for new mothers who are seeking a holistic approach to postpartum care. I am dedicated to supporting new mothers in their transition to motherhood by providing postnatal care that is grounded in traditional principles, like warmth and rest. This approach is aimed at helping new mothers restore their physical and emotional wellbeing, while also providing them with the tools they need to support their newborns.

Some principles are based on Ayurveda. Ayurveda is an ancient healing system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that the mind, body, and spirit are interconnected, and that true healing can only be achieved by addressing all three aspects of the self. Ayurveda is a holistic approach to health that focuses on preventing illness and promoting wellness by balancing the body and mind through diet, lifestyle, and natural remedies.

Juno Births draws upon Ayurvedic principles to provide new mothers with postnatal care that is gentle, nurturing, and supportive. I recognize that the postpartum period can be a challenging time for new mothers and that many women struggle to find the support and care they need during this time. My mission is to address this by providing postnatal support that is grounded in traditional wisdom, and that is designed to help new mothers restore their energy and vitality after childbirth.

I emphasize the importance of nourishing the body with healthy and nourishing foods. Ayurveda recognizes that food is medicine and that the foods we eat can have a profound impact on our physical and emotional well-being. I provide new mothers with personalized nutrition menus that are tailored to their individual needs and preferences. These plans are designed to help new mothers heal and recover from childbirth, while also providing them with the energy they need to care for their newborns.

I recognize the unique challenges that modern mothers face and that they need a range of support services to help them navigate the postnatal period. By offering traditional and modern support services, I strive to provide new mothers with the tools they need to thrive during this challenging time.

What kind of Support can I offer you?

Emotional support

I provide emotional support to new mothers by being present, listening to their concerns, and providing information about the postnatal period, transition into motherhood, and infant care. Emotional support is vital in postnatal care, as it helps new mothers to feel less isolated and carried during this crucial time in their lives. I strive to provide a safe space where mothers can share their experiences and feelings without judgment and receive the support they need to navigate the challenges of motherhood.

Physical support

I aid in the physical well-being of new mothers by providing various services that promote rest and healing. These services include massages, yoni steam (from 6 weeks pp), foot bath, sitz bath, Reiki, and belly binding. These physical support services help new mothers to heal from the physical demands of childbirth and promote relaxation and rejuvenation.

Practical support

I take over the very practical things: taking care of tasks that can be overwhelming for new mothers. These tasks include cooking, light household tasks, small grocery trips, watching the baby or other kids when the mother needs to take a nap or shower, pet care (feeding pets, walking small dogs), and arranging things to allow the mother to rest. This practical support helps new mothers to feel less overwhelmed, and more supported during the postnatal period. A new mother’s priority is to rest and bond with the baby. Let someone else clean your floor!

Rituals

I (sometimes together with another doula colleague) also offer a closing-the-bones ritual, which is a traditional postnatal ritual that has been used for centuries to support the physical and emotional healing of new mothers. This ritual involves wrapping the mother’s body with several long pieces of cloth or shawl to offer closure after childbirth or any other important event in a mother’s life. The ritual also includes the use of special herbs and oils to help promote healing and relaxation. The closing the bones ritual is a powerful way to honor and support new mothers during this important time in their lives.
